Physical Activity

Stromness Academy offer a variety of extra-curricular physical activities for pupils to participate in. The clubs are open to everyone from S1-6 and are mainly an opportunity to have fun, participate in different activities and stay fit, although there is the opportunity to enter competitions and festivals for some sports. Boys Rugby (S1 - S6)

Mr Berry leads the school rugby team with the support of ORFC Rugby Development Officer, Bruce Ruthven. Training takes place all year round during Friday activities in preparation for regular games against KGS across a variety of age groups. Stromness Academy are hopeful that we will have games in 2013 against schools from Orkney and Caithness in the 'Cross-Pentland Challenge'. Watch this space for more information.

Girls Rugby (S1 - S6)

The newly formed girl's rugby team is led by Mr Watt and also train during Friday activities all year round. As participation numbers and enthusiasm is so high, it is hoped that 2013 will see Stromness Academy's first ever girl's rugby game against KGS .

Volleyball (S1 - S6)

The after school volleyball club runs from September till Easter on Tuesdays and is led by Mrs Warnock with support from Mrs Houston and Mr Berry. This club sees between 30-40 pupils of varying ages and abilities participating in fun drills and games to improve their volleyball performance in preparation for the 'Scholes Cup'.

Fitness Club (S3 - S6)

Every Tuesday and Thursday between 3.15 and 4.30pm, Mr Berry offers a fitness club for anyone interested in using the fitness suite to develop their fitness levels.

Hockey (S1 - S6)

Between Easter and October, Mrs Warnock offers a hockey activity to anyone interested in developing their hockey performance. This usually takes place after school on a Tuesday. A Stromness Academy girl's team participates in a local ladies hockey league that starts in May.

Netball (S1 - S6)

Between Easter and the Summer, Mrs Warnock runs a netball activity on Thursdays between 3.15 and 4.30pm. This is in preparation for a interschool tournament with KGS just before the summer holidays.

Inter-house Competition (S1 - S6)

Stromness Academy has an extensive inter-house programme that runs all year round. The 4 houses, Thorfinn, Magnus, Sigurd and Rognavald, compete against each at a variety of activities at each year group to collect points for their house!
