Pupil Council

The school staff value the contribution made by pupils to the day to day running of the school. The principal mechanism for airing of pupils' views is through the Pupils' Council. Each year two councils are elected to represent the year groups. This year this is S1-3 and S4/5. Volunteer representatives are recruited from S6 and they take part in the discussions with the Year Heads on the chairing of meetings, taking minutes and generating interest. Election of representatives, two per class (preferably one boy, one girl) is carried out by Guidance staff during Personal and Social Education time or registration at the start of the session. In the time leading up to the meetings, S6 Reps - usually 4 are allocated to each council - regularly consult with Pupils Reps to establish the agendas. Young people are encouraged to discuss issues in PSE. Items for the agenda can also come from SMT who may wish to obtain pupil views on some important school issues.

Meetings, which are held once per term, are chaired by S6 Reps. They also take minutes which are checked by SMT before being circulated to all classes via Register Teachers for display in Register Rooms, and significant items are taken forward by a variety of means. Copies of minutes can be downloaded below.

All pupils are kept up to date on the work of the Pupils' Council at regular year assemblies.

Pupil Council representatives also play roles in representing pupils at special events or in organising activities with Register Classes. For example, they joined our guests for the opening of the Extension of the School.
