Much fun, laughter and brain teasing as parents, pupils, friends and family got together. A massive thank you to all involved for their planning, hard work and contributions to a great evenings entertainment, yummy three course supper and great prizes. Pupil Voice

We value the contribution made by pupils to the day-to-day running of the school and encourage pupils to put forward ideas and take ownership of initiatives within school.

Pupil Councils

The principal mechanism for airing of pupils’ views is through the Pupil Councils; these generally meet as S1-3 and S4-6, but may occasionally meet together. Each registration class elects 2 pupils to represent them at the council, and these representatives gather issues to be raised and consults their class on agenda items put forward by pupils or staff. Minutes of meetings are posted in the school foyer and pupils updated by their representatives during registration time and in assemblies. Copies of minutes can be downloaded below.

Prefects

We have a team of prefects within S6 who are selected for their roles in a process involving formal applications, interviews and staff and pupil voting. They take on responsibility for specific areas within the school alongside general duties at break/lunchtimes, and represent the school at public events. Each prefect runs a committee who help them with their activities, and has a staff mentor for support in fulfilling this role. The prefects also meet regularly with the School’s Senior Management Team to discuss aspects of the running of the school.

Recruitment

As key stakeholders, pupils are involved in the recruitment of senior staff to the school, taking part in panel interviews and contributing their views to the evaluation of candidates alongside those of school staff, Education Department staff, Orkney Islands Councillors and parent representatives.
