What does the team do?
The School Nurse team provide support and advice on health issues for children from school entry age until 19 years old in all educational establishments.
The School Health team do this by:
- Referring to other services as and when required
- Offering Health Zone’s in secondary schools
- Offering a range of workshops
- Provide 1:1 support
- Liaising with education and other services
We attend Stromness Academy every Monday for our drop in service. We can provide support around anxiety, sleep, healthy lifestyles, relationships and much more. If we are unable to provide you with appropriate support, we will be able to signpost you to someone who can. You can come and see us during break/lunch time during our drop-in, or you can fill out our referral card yourself and put it into our post box! You can also speak to any of your teachers and they can put in a referral for you.
Using the national “Getting it right for every child” (GIREFC) Wellbeing Wheel, the School Health team will meet with S1 pupils and complete a health and wellbeing assessment which is optional. Further information regarding the Wellbeing Wheel can be found at – www.gov.scot/policies/girfec/
